Charred Remains (Version Sound) ‘81

Great American/Canadian comp tape from ‘81, some heavy weight bands on this tape. Came with a 24 page booklet which contained information on all the bands appearing on the tape. My all time fav. track on this comp would have to be the opening number by Void.
Noise Records is now working on a second international hardcore compilation entitled “Meathouse.” It will be a double C60 cassette of up-and-coming bands from the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Contact Noise Records right away if your band wants to be on it. This is a great new label that deserves your support.

Excellent comp! My favorite track is AOF’s Street Fight… love how the opening bass line leads into the song!

  2. bored.to.death Says:

I love you for this, seriously!!

  3. WillRepute Says:

    THANK YOU!

I tried downloading this from SoulSeek, but the download was slow as hell.

  4. WillRepute Says:

    Excellent comp.

    Very excellent.

  5. Grover Says:

I think the file names are a little off starting with “In the Red”, which I think is actually missing. “In the Red” is actually “Reagan Youth”. The last labeled Rebel Truth song is actually the first Personality Crisis song. It seems to be back on track by the last Personality Crisi song. Maybe its just be me…

This is a great tape. Great American punk.

  6. stunt Says:

Thanks Grover got it allorted out now. Seems i was missing one rebel truth song ‘in the red’. The one missing track fuct up the naming of the tracks but it should all be fixed by tonight, thanks again.

  7. Seek and Destroy 78 Says:

Great comp, lots of essentials early us/can hc bands.
btw Dogs Of War were Gentlemen Of Horror going on a more hardcore way.
Also the band Distract Contradiction doesn’t exist, in fact it’s District Tradition from San Diego CA… well it’s written in the booklet scanned here anyway.

actually ran into Bob/Version Sound a couple years ago at a Toxic Reasons “farewell” gig in Dayton…this guy is STILL active & into stuff-NO SHIT!! seems he ended up a teacher in Japan in the late-1980’s~early-1990’s & is now back in Ohio & somewhere he still has all his master tapes he did these comps from. mentioned that he would like to re-assemble them into proper cd’s, but on top of the nightmare that would bring him trying to track down old band members, etc…, he’s still not sure if all the tapes have survived improper storage, let alone where all the artwork is at…

  9. Dave K. Says:

One of the best and rarest tape comps. out there! I have never owned a “real” one now thanks to you I have it…very cool!

  12. bryan swirsky Says:

i have the followup to this. it’s called ‘meathouse’ and it’s brilliant. i will post it as soon as i can track it down. wedge, tell bob moore the next time you see him that he is a hero! i’ll help him track down all the old farts down. he has to get these on proper cd reissue.

I’d love to hear that MEATHOUSE tape - I’ve beeen looking for this for AGES!!!!

  14. smegma pigvomit Says:

The song line-up is screwed. Although there are only TWO Personality Crisis songs listed in the song order (Wonder What They’re Thinking, Waiting) there are actually THREE PC songs on the tape (Wonder…, Waiting, and Shotgun). You don’t have “Shotgun” listed and as a result the last Rebel Truth song listed actually is a PC song whne you play the tape.

I have a Personality Crisis demo tape that even preceeds the Charred Remains recordings with three psychedelic-joy-division-meets-the-stooges songs that they recorded just after changing their name to PC from “Le Kille”. Anyone interested in hearing that?

  15. Elf Says:

Bob’s greatest flaw, as a punk, was (I haven’t spoken to him for 23 years) that he was such a great guy. There aren’t that many people who are that together at such a young age and able to actually direct their energy in such an entirely positive direction. We certainly weren’t - even with Bob managing us, we still managed to screw the pooch. Without our humble contributions to this compilation, and the contacts we made directly because of it, we never would have had the faith to continue as we did. Thank you Bob.

    TO: smegma pigvomit,

Yes, please, I’d really like to hear the super-early PC tracks. Saw ‘em live a handful of times (in the ’80’s), and they remain one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen to this day (and yeah, I still go to gigs!).

Everyone in that line-up was totally gifted, and when they played together, the sound was always greater than the sum of their parts.

Finally, for those not sure, Personality Crisis are actually All-Canadian, forming in Winnipeg and finally basing themselves out of Calgary. Fantastic songs played with total conviction; maybe one of our country’s best bands EVER.

Hey, it’s 2007 as I write this, what does that tell you?

  17. the Kool guy Says:

to smegma pigvomit or mr deddy
